Week 4: German

My dad was super excited to take me to the Phoenix Club in Anaheim not only because they have really good German food and homemade pretzels but because they also have lots of Germans! Unfortunately, when got there it was closed for "kitchen upgrades" so we went to another place close by called Jagerhaus.

It was in an old rundown strip mall and some of the parking lot was dirt! - which my mom wouldn't park in :(

Inside it looked like and old German grandma's house. It had lots of fake plants and knick knacks on the walls.

I like German food. I really like it. I like all kinds of sausages, schnitzel, sauerkraut, spatzle, pretzels, mustard...well, you get it. Below is a picture of the schnitzel with gravy, spatzle and red cabbage. My mom said it looked like a hot mess.  It wasn't the best German food I've ever had but it wasn't bad.

Next time I have a craving for German food I think I'll try the Phoenix Club.

Week 3: Indian

This week I picked Indian food. My mom picked Rasoi Curry Point all the way in Tustin. She found it on Yelp and chose it because of the tasting tray (which is really like a buffet since it's all-you-can-eat). When we first walked inside he restaurant we weren't sure we were in the right place. It was just a plain room with some tables and only a door to what I'm pretty sure was the kitchen. After standing there for a few minutes not really sure what to do a crazy nice waiter came in and showed us to a table. He told us about the tasting menu, which varies daily and can come with meat, vegetarian or vegan. Unfortunately there's not sharing so we had to order our own.

It was a lot of food!!!

I loved the yogurt dipping sauce that had little diced tomatoes. It went really good with the chicken. The naan was super fresh and had lots of garlic. I loved spinning my tray to sample each item.  Everything was really good except for the dessert, rice pudding and that was just weird.

Foodie tip: I had a drink called a mango lassi. It's a yogurt drink and super good. One of the best things about it is when you eat something spicy you just take a drink and your mouth cools down.

Week 2: Cabo!!!!

I didn't pick this week because I was on vacation in Mexico. Well Cabo San Lucas actually. My cousins got to come with us so that was really fun!
Do you like our Zinka?

We stayed in a huge condo resort and it was super close to the beach.

My food in general wasn't very exciting. It was mostly cheeseburgers, pizzas and quesadillas. The best thing I had at the resort was a virgin margarita.

This is the life!

I did lots of fun stuff though. Like swim with dolphins....

That's my brother dancing with the dolphin!

...supervise the mermaid making of Uncle Jon....

....and go on a glass bottom boat out to the arch...

On the last night we went to a restaurant in town called Maria Jimenez. It looked like it was built a long time ago and even had a hammock outside.

They gave everyone this thing that had a maize base, soupy beans and some Mexican cheese on top. It was kind of like a mini bean burrito pizza.

That's not a great picture but I think you get the idea.
Then I shared beef fajitas with my brother while enjoying some live music and my first Mexican coke -which was awesome!

Is there anything better than live music? These guys were great!

I loved Mexico! Everything was awesome...well the food was a little disappointing but everything else was awesome. Anyway, I can get really good Mexican food with my grandparents at their favorite spot in Costa Mesa, Amorelia.

Week 1: Vietnamese

My first pick was Vietnamese food. My week was really busy so instead of heading to a more authentic restaurant my mom picked one by my taekwondo studio. It's called Bamboo Bistro and it has both Vietnamese and Thai food (but my mom would only let me pick the Vietnamese food).

The very first thing I tried was my grandma Nonna's Vietnamese coffee. It was horrible! They gave it to her black and it was so bitter that even she couldn't drink it so they gave her sweetened condensed milk and it was a little better.

Then I tried my mom's coconut mushroom soup. It was good and I really liked the flavor. It was a little spicy and salty...I even tasted the lime :)

Then I tried the vegetable spring rolls. I liked them even though they had vegetables that I usually don't like, like carrots (gross)!

The shaken beef was super good and my favorite thing I ate.

Finally, and the most adventurous, was the Vietnamese crepe with pork belly and tiger prawns. It's pictured with me and my Pappy. He's a BIG foodie too!! I have to say this wasn't my favorite. The prawns, pork belly and little sprouts were all really good but I really didn't like the crepe because it was more like an egg than a crepe.

Pretty much all of the flavors were completely new to me. I'd give Bamboo Bistro 4.5/5 stars.

This experience was so cool!

My First Post

I am so excited to do this and I am even more excited to try out new foods! I think some will be really good and some may be a little bit gross but that's part of the adventure.

It's time to pick the first kind of food I'm going to try. I wrote down all of the kinds of food I could think of and then put them in a hat. Now it's time to pick.

And the winner is...

Vietnamese!!! I was kind of hoping for Italian, you know, start off easy but hey that's part of the adventure!
